Thesis Title

‘The Afterlives of Algeria in Contemporary France: Literary Narratives and Contested Spaces of Memory’

Supervisors

Professor Kate Marsh, Dr Jonathan Lewis and Dr Ian Magedera

Research Summary

My thesis examines contemporary literary narratives that interpret lasting legacies in France of the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962) and decolonization. This involves setting analysis of literary texts in a context of often fractious political debate regarding commemoration of France’s colonial past.
