Omar Ahmed has been teaching Film and Media Studies for over 12 years. He was formerly Head of Film at Aquinas College, Manchester. He is also a freelance writer and is curating a forthcoming season of films titled ‘Not Just Bollywood’ for HOME in Manchester, supported by the North West Film Fund (BFI).

Thesis title

Rupture, Agitation & Revolt: The Dialectics of Political Cinema in the Foundational Years (1968 – 1976) of Indian Parallel Cinema

Research Summary

My work engages with the historical development of Indian Parallel Cinema (a relatively unexplored area of study in the field of Indian film studies) in the late 1960s, specifically the shifting political dynamics of The Naxalite Movement, the syntax of film form and representational issues. Theoretical perspectives underpinning the research includes trauma theory, post colonialism and iconoclasm.
