Thesis Title
A Poetics of Non-Complicity: subjective ideological resistance in contemporary Anglophone innovative poetry.
Supervisors
Dr Scott Thurston (University of Salford); Dr Nikolai Duffy (Manchester Metropolitan University)
Research Summary
My study focuses on contemporary experimental poetry which contends that our social conditions are materially and ideologically oppressive. It will examine ways these poetries aim to contribute towards political resistance through ideological critiques which reimagine identities, relations and actions. This will focus on two key aspects: the resistive potential of poetic discourse grounded in partial, unstable affective experience; and the cognitive or ideological content of formal, prosodic or aesthetic elements of poetry.
