Thesis Title

Caring for Others? Faith-based Welfare Provision in Modern Britain

Supervisor

Professor Andrew Dawson

Research summary

My research will investigate the relationship between faith-based organisations (hereafter, FBOs) and social welfare in contemporary British society. In light of exploring the subjective dimensions (e.g. motives, aspirations, experiences) of FBOs, this project will interrogate prevailing objective conditions (e.g. political priorities, policy agendas, public opinion) to the end of appreciating the challenges, opportunities and potential for change implicated by them. Ultimately, this project hopes to contribute to public policy engagement by providing a rounded and balanced treatment of the increasingly prominent role both afforded and welcomed by FBOs.

Research interests
