Set and Drift: Where Sea and Self Meet

Research Summary

This thesis will investigate how the lyric can accommodate a place where there is no ‘I’; how imagination and scientific fact can be used to write about the sea in poetry that illuminates the interdependence of human and ocean.

Embodiment, especially the phenomenology of perception
The impact of climate change and other forms of man-made pollution on the sea
