Research Summary
My research explores seaweed cultivation on the west coast of Scotland. Although practiced in eastern Asia for centuries, interest in seaweed cultivation in the West has only really started to take off in the last decade. Intergovernmental organisations, entrepreneurs, the media and others are suddenly claiming that seaweed is a panacea for 21st Century problems. Why seaweed, and why now?
