Research Summary

My practice-led research explores poetry film as a medium for place engagement. I create works in 2D and 360° immersive media for exhibition on screen and in a bespoke pop-up viewing pod. The project is a Collaborative Doctoral Award with Keele University in partnership with Writing West Midlands, and the thesis includes public engagement through the role of Poetry Filmmaker in Residence at Birmingham Literature Festival 2023. Through my supervisory team the project also connects with the Centre for Place Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am particularly interested in how the act of pausing can deepen our place relationships, and how words, images and sound can work together most effectively within a multimedia context.
