Research Summary

The project focuses on Russian state-affiliated media discourse on the invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022 and is still ongoing. More specifically, it aims to study television programmes broadcast on Russia’s biggest TV channels: Channel 1 and Russia-1. Coverage of the most significant events of the war in political talk shows and news broadcasts is studied by combining multiple methodological frameworks in the field of Critical Discourse Studies in order to determine which legitimation, framing, and blaming strategies are used by Russian state-affiliated television programmes to further the state agenda regarding the war in Ukraine.
