Dates: 25-26 October 2017

Venue: The University of Liverpool and FACT

The AHRC North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership is delighted to announce that this year’s postgraduate conference, Exploring Identity: Between Being and Belonging, will be hosted by The University of Liverpool and FACT on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October 2017. The conference aims to bring together postgraduate researchers and academic staff in the Arts and Humanities to explore the concept of ‘identity’ from a range of interdisciplinary perspectives.

We are delighted that Dr Sandeep Parmar, Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Liverpool and AHRC/BBC New Generation Thinker (2015), will be delivering the conference keynote.

Scholars, performers and creative practitioners will reflect on ‘identity’, as representing a stable condition of being, a collective notion of belonging, and a continual process of becoming, in the light of current, progressively challenging contexts. This interdisciplinary conference will examine the concept of ‘identity’ against this backdrop as it manifests across literature, language, and culture.

The full conference programme, including abstracts of all accepted proposals, and further details about the conference, are now available on the website. Our interdisciplinary panel themes include, among others:

  • Constructing National Identities
  • The American Experience
  • Identity in Translation
  • Musical Identities
  • Conflict and Cultural Identity
  • Social Media Identities

We look forward to welcoming you in October. Queries about registration and other questions should be sent via email to: NWCDTP2017@gmail.com or visit the website: https://ahrc2017identity.wordpress.com/
